Introduction This system was a bespoke development which integrated ANPR with the town centre CCTV system previously supplied by Tyco Integrated Systems. This required considerable development to achieve all of the specified system functions. The town centre surveillance system had over 100 cameras. Most of these were upgraded so they could be switched to ‘ANPR’ mode and routed automatically to ANPR readers. This extended the use and power of the CCTV system.
The system functions were:
Vehicle alerts against database lists
Journey time analysis (real time and historical)
Bus Lane Enforcement
Still Image Recording
Integrated DVR for pre- and post-event recording
System data is stored on a SQL database and data accessed from Graphic User Interfaces (GUIs). Both ANPR and CCTV control were integrated into the GUIs.
Users can write simple programs; when these programs are run, the CCTV controller automatically configures the ANPR system to perform designated tasks, switch cameras to ANPR mode and route camera video to available ANPR reader channels.
The system was designed to make operation very simple to achieve complex functions.
Software interfaces allows data to be exported to a local Police back office (BOF) and local traffic enforcement databases.
Data could also be imported from vehicle mounted mobile ANPR readers. The system has powerful data search and retrieval functions.
