The Project

Tyco Integrated Systems have designed and installed a major communications system at BNFL's Sellafield plant in Cumbria.  This system which includes Intercom and Public Address was specifically designed to operate under BNFL's exacting specifications which are amongst the most stringent anywhere in the world.

Based around an M100S Controller using a PC driven menu, the Intercom system, with more than 200 industrial standard extensions provides high reliability voice communication.  In addition, the Tyco Public Address system provides vital voice and tone messages throughout the complex for communications and ensures a controlled evacuation of the building in case of emergencies.

One of the reasons for the choice of Tyco Integrated Systems as the supplier was the company's proven ability to design and supply complete integrated systems to meet the individual requirements of major industrial users such as BNFL.  Additionally, being manufacturer independant, the availability of a wide range of  products ensured the most appropriate solution for each location was found was an influencing factor of the decision.

Over the past 20 years Tyco Integrated Systems has provided many of the plant communication systems at Sellafield, including that for the THORPE plant, which was when constructed, the largest building in Europe.
