Public safety and security are key considerations for retail applications such as shopping malls and department stores etc. CCTV is extensively used as a deterrent to theft by both the public and staff, whilst public address, often combined with fire systems, are requirements for health and safety.
Tyco has designed, installed and maintained systems using Public Address, Voice Alarm, CCTV and display technologies, such as Video walls and information points, for many years, for retail complexes and retailer chains.
One of our customers has introduced our communication solutions based on Radio Paging and Public address into some 200 stores in the UK alone. Tyco is also actively involved in many leading edge communications technologies. These include GSM in-building solutions for improved GSM coverage and capacity, and other integrated communications including developments for voice over the Internet.
Saddlers Shopping Centre
Tyco Integrated Systems has designed, supplied and installed a state-of-the-art, integrated security and emergency response system for Land Securities, at the Saddlers Shopping Centre in Walsall.
The security operations control centre can capture 'photo-quality' digital images onto disk and enable operators to monitor cameras overnight from a remote location via the telephone network. Operator control of CCTV cameras and response to emergency alarms is activated using touch-screen technology.
Many of the previously independent systems such as CCTV, PA and Intercom, which Tyco Traffic & Transportation installed at the shopping centre in 1991, have now been modernised and integrated into the system. An example being when an access violation is detected, the nearest PTZ dome camera will automatically focus on the scene, capturing high-quality, real-time images of the event. Video recorders have been replaced with the latest computer hard disk digital recording technology that avoids the degradation of magnetic tape VCR recordings.
The jointly developed retail centre system will also be adaptable to meet the future requirements of the site, including people counting, signage displays, smartcard usage and telephony.
