Severn Trent
Tyco Integrated Systems supplied Severn Trent Water Authority with customised personal protection paging systems at Ogston Water Treatment Works in Derbyshire. The system provides two main functions, employee warnings and remote gate opening. The transceivers allow two-way conversation and also enable personnel to open the main gate by entering a code number on the transceiver.
The system is based upon Lone Worker paging and the main control facilities are handled by a central control PC equipped with special hardware cards, with coupling to the host PABX being by telephone coupler and dial coupler.
There is also an interface between on-site SCADA systems to allow automatic transfer of crucial data to a mobile transceiver, for example water levels. The customer's demanding specifications also included the need to operate the transceiver via special headsets while wearing their fully protective chemical-resistant suits.
